Earthly Delights

The current exhibition at the V&A, London, “Tim Walker: Wonderful Things,” with its unrivalled variation of image has again swept us away, like Alice discovering another new Wonderland!

But it is not the first time that we met…

Our hometown, ’s – Hertogenbosch, where Van Gelder Galleries is based, also is the city of birth to the world renowned, medieval painter Jeroen Bosch, Hieronymus Bosch(1450-1516). Two years ago (nov ‘17 to feb ‘18) Tim Walker, had hisexhibition -The Garden of Earthly Delights by Tim Walker- at Het NoordbrabantsMuseum in ‘s-Hertogenbosch, literally steps away from VGIJ Galleries. Tim, commissioned by the Nicola Erni Collection, drew inspiration from the artist who fascinated him since childhood: 15th century Dutch master, Hieronymus Bosch. Walker created a unique photographic response to The Garden of Earthly Delights, which is housed in Museo del Prado in Madrid. We have enjoyed visiting that exhibition immensely and returned many times, only to make discoveries over and over again. And what a treat to have these works nearby like a ‘friendly neighbour’! Such a small world, with so many wonderful things!
