Epic Iran

This exhibition in the V&A, London, explores the cultural history of Iran from 3,000BC to the present day, summarizing 5,000 years of civilization through over 300 items from ancient, Islamic and contemporary Iran.

Taking us from the very first civilizations via the triumphs of the Persian Empire, the conquest of Alexander the Great, the conversion to Islam and the downfall of the last Shah.

Persia, a place of cultural pluralism, where Arabs, Greeks, Kurds, Jews, Zoroastrians, Sufis and Muslims all mixed accumulating in the artistic richness of Iran, with influences from China, Mesopotamia, Greece, the Mongols, reflected in ‘Persian Islamic art’ which in turn influenced the whole Islamic world.
